Snow Types and Insulation

Students will explore and make observations of the different layers of fallen snow in multiple environments, such as in the open, or under tree cover and other shelter.

Students will learn about and get hands-on experience in studying the different shapes of snowflakes, and get close and personal using magnifying glasses and handheld microscopes.

Creating snow forts, students can compare insulation values of snow by measuring temperatures both inside and out, and with body heat and without.
